Your clipboard stays on your PC
Copied text only leaves your computer when you pick an action.
Clype is built to know as little about you as possible. Here's exactly what happens to your data.
Your clipboard stays on your PC
Copied text only leaves your computer when you pick an action.
Your text isn't saved
Our server passes it to the AI and sends the result back. That's it.
No account, no email
We never ask for your name, email, or payment details.
Nothing is sold
We don't sell your data or use your text to train AI.
Clype is a Windows app made by Codalus, based in Canada. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Codalus. If you have any question about your privacy, email support@getclype.com.
This policy covers the Clype app for Windows and this website, getclype.com.
Your clipboard. Clype watches your clipboard so it can open when you copy text. This happens only on your computer. Nothing you copy is sent anywhere unless you pick an action in Clype.
Your keyboard shortcut. So Clype can open when you press its shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+Space unless you change it), it checks the keys you press for that one combination. This happens only on your computer. Clype doesn't record, save or send anything you type. You can turn the shortcut off in Settings.
The text you choose to process. When you pick an action, such as “Fix grammar”, Clype sends the copied text and the action's instruction to our server, which runs on Cloudflare, over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Our server passes them to our AI provider, gets the result, and sends it back to you. Our server does not save your text or the result, and does not write them to any log.
An anonymous device ID. Clype creates a code from basic information about your computer and scrambles it with a one-way hash, so it can't be turned back into your computer's name or details. Our server scrambles it once more before using it. We use it to give each device its free actions and to keep the service fair.
Your IP address. Like any internet service, our server sees your IP address when Clype connects. We use it only to stop abuse, for example too many requests at once or too many new devices from one network. Our server only keeps a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of it, for that day.
Usage counts. We count how many actions each device ID has used in the last 12 hours, so we can apply the free limit. Only the number is stored, never what you did.
Settings, custom actions and history. Your settings, your custom actions, Clype's error log, and your history (your last 50 AI results, while "Save history" is on) are saved only on your computer. Your history is encrypted with Windows' own protection, so only your Windows account can read it. None of this is ever sent to us. You can delete history entries one by one, clear them all, or turn history off in Settings, which deletes it. Uninstalling Clype removes all of it.
What we never collect: your name, email, account details, payment details, contacts, files, screenshots, location, or anything you type that you haven't chosen to process.
Clype's AI actions are processed by DeepInfra, a company based in the United States. DeepInfra receives the text and the action's instruction, plus nothing that identifies you. According to its policies, DeepInfra processes requests in memory, does not use them to train AI models, and may keep them for a limited time only for debugging. You can read DeepInfra's privacy policy.
Because of this, avoid processing very sensitive information with Clype, such as passwords, banking details, or health records.
Cloudflare hosts getclype.com and delivers some of its files. To do this, it processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type, mainly for security and to keep the site fast.
We use two analytics tools to understand how many people visit and which pages they look at:
The ideas page. If you answer the questions on getclype.com/ideas, we save your answers (what you use Clype for, what you'd like next, and the price you picked) in a database hosted by Cloudflare. We don't ask for your name or email, so please don't include personal information in your answers.
If you email support@getclype.com, we receive your email address and your message. We use them only to reply to you. Cloudflare forwards these emails to our inbox, which is hosted by Google.
Reporting an answer. If you click the report button (the flag) next to “Copy result”, your email app opens with an email to us that already contains your text and Clype's answer. You can change or remove anything before sending it, and nothing is sent unless you send it yourself. We use reports only to look into the problem, and we delete them once it's handled.
Clype is downloaded and updated through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft handles that under its own privacy statement. Microsoft may share summary statistics with us, such as how many people installed Clype and crash reports, but not who you are.
We only share data with the services that make Clype work, and only what each one needs:
We never sell your data. We would only share information if the law requires it.
These services may process data outside your country, mainly in the United States.
Every connection between Clype and our server is encrypted, and each request is signed so it can't be faked or replayed. Because we don't store your text, there's no text for anyone to steal from our server. Still, no system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Clype isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child under 13 has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us and we'll delete it.
If Clype changes how it handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For important changes, we'll also let you know in the app or on this website.
